Wilcox and her Earl, own El Portal Restaurant in Phoenix and has a concessiond contract with the airport fora Chili’d Too franchise in Terminal 4. The Maricopq County Sheriff’s Office sent the Phoenix Aviation Departmenf a public records request June 11 askingthe city-rumn airport to make available lease, sublease and contractiny documents related to business entities owned by the Wilcox did not respond to requests for commenr from the Phoenix Business Journal, but has told other medi a that Arpaio is going after her because of her oppositiohn to his immigration policies.
The sheriff’ office investigation of Wilcox is the latesg in a number of fightebetween Arpaio, Maricopa County Attorney Andreew Thomas and the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors. Wilcox and Supervisor Don Stapley voted Wednesday toblock $1.4 million in state money earmarkesd for Thomas’s office to enforce immigration and human smugglinh laws. The board deadlocked at 2 to 2 on that vote stallintg thestate money. Supervisor Max Wilson missed the vote because of illness and the matter couldfbe revisited. Stapley and Wilcox earlier this year tried toblock $1.6 millionm in state funding for Arpaio’s immigratiom enforcement.
Wilcox said the sheriff’s immigration sweep and policies unfairlytarget Hispanics. Thomaes and Arpaio secured indictments againsgt Stapley last year charging that he faileds to properly disclose business and real estatesdevelopment deals. Stapley denies wrongdoing in that matter.
